Presentation topic:

How to Decolonize Products of Consumption like Chocolate, Tea, and Vanilla?

In Ecuador, indigenous people have established a concept, called Sumac Kawsay in the  Quechua (Kichwa) language or also known as Well-Being. Through this concept, they promote living in communities and respecting both people and nature. Two of these indigenous peoples who live this concept are the Kichwa and Shuar of the Amazon. The cultivation in their forest gardens, called Chakras, and the valorization of their cultures are deeply intertwined. The products they harvest are, on the one hand, for self-consumption and, on the other hand, for the processing of final products, like chocolate, vanilla, and tea, which they sell to Europe.  Though, how does selling products of the Amazon in Europe fit together with decolonizing products like chocolate, vanilla, and tea? You´re warmly invited to listen to my talk in order to know more about this topic which is essential for a sustainable and fair future.
