Presentation topic:

Fighting for their lives: The Yanomami and their uncontacted relatives

There are more than one hundred uncontacted tribes around the world. They are the most vulnerable peoples on the planet - threatened by violence from outsiders who steal their land and resources, and by diseases like flu, COVID-19 and measles to which they have no resistance. Their choice to remain isolated has to be respected.

Survival International - the global movement for tribal peoples - is an authority on uncontacted tribes and has been successfully campaigning for their self-determination since 1969. With the help of lobbying, research, protests, e-mail actions and supporters from over 100 countries the very existence of uncontacted tribes isn’t questioned anymore and they are increasingly recognized as our contemporaries.

This talk will be about Survival’s work with the Yanomami, including a special focus on their uncontacted relatives and the threats they face today.
